Davco® Standard Tile Adhesive

Use for standard sized tiles and all porous tiles such as ceramic tiles, ceramic mosaics and baked clay tiles.

Davco® Standard Tile Adhesive is an economical thick or thin bed (TTB) cement based tile adhesive. Ideal for laying the following tile types: ceramic tiles, baked clay tiles, quarry and most monocottura tiles unto interior and exterior walls and floors.

Usage

For standard sized tiles (up to 60cm x 60cm) and all porous tiles such as ceramic tiles, ceramic mosaics, baked clay tiles and laterite tiles onto rendered concrete.

Consumption

Coverage varies according to surface condition and the buildup required. The following can be used as guide:

Using a 4mm x 4mm notched trowel approx.           2.5kg/m2
Using a 6mm x 6mm notched trowel approx.           3.5kg/m2
Using a 10mm x 10mm notched trowel approx.       5.0kg/m2
Application steps

SURFACE PREPARATION

All surfaces must be structurally sound, dry, clean and free from oil, grease, wax, and other contaminants. Painted surfaces must be scrubbed/abraded to expose at least 75% of clean surface.

  

Newly rendered surfaces must be allowed to cure for at least 7 days. Steel trowel finished concrete must be acid-etched or wire brushed prior to tiling. Very porous surfaces should be properly primed.

  

New concrete must be allowed to cure for 28 days.

MIXING

Add one 25 kg bag of DAVCO Standard Tile Adhesive to approximately 5 to 6 liters of clean water, mixing continuously until a lump-free, creamy consistency is achieved.

 

APPLICATION

Allow the mix to stand for 1-2 minutes; remix then use the adhesive. Spread the adhesive onto the substrate using either a 6mm x 6mm notched trowel for wall tiling, or a 10mm x 10mm notched trowel for floor tiling. The choice of trowel should be determined by the size of the tiles, depth of knobs, grooves or ridges on the back of the tile, and the evenness of the substrate.

  

  • A 6mm x 6mm notched trowel is recommended for the mosaic tiles.
  • Thicker bed adhesive allow for better contact to the substrate as well as picking up unevenness especially in the case of slates.
  • For tiles with deep grooves or ridges, such as slate or lugged backed tiles, the adhesive should be butter coated onto the back of the tiles in addition to being notched-trowelled onto the substrate.
  • Do not spread more than 1 m2 of adhesive at a time. Ensure that the adhesive is wet when the tiles are laid and tapped into position to ensure positive contact with the adhesive.
  • Ensure that there are no voids under the tiles.
  • Do not allow the adhesive to skin over prior to tiling.
  • Install tiles within the duration of the open time.
  • Do not disturb or walk-on tiles within 24 hours, after installation.
